Lessons & Courses

1. One 2 One Theory Lesson

About The DSA's Driving Theory Test
In your actual driving theory test, you will be assessed on your driving attitude, traffic signs and regulations, safety in vehicles and how the environment affects driving conditions, plus the effects of alcohol, drugs and fatigue on drivers.

The DSA theory test is split into two sections:
  1. 35 multiple choice questions
From a bank of 800 to test your road safety knowledge in 40 minutes.** You must get 30 out of the 35 to pass.
  2. 14 video clips
To test your hazard perception skills. You will use a mouse to indicate when you spot a potential hazard. The quicker you are, the higher your score.

You will need to pass both of these before you can take your practical test. If you fail either section, you will need to retake the whole test again.
Your instructor will go through many of these aspects during you driving lesson.

Focus School of Motoring can arrange in-car theory training. Please ring us for further information.

(Books on this and other topics of driving are available from the DSA bookstore) See our Links & information page above.

Pass plus logo4. Pass Plus Lesson

Pass Plus was developed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).

It is a six-module training syllabus designed by DSA to develop the skills and knowledge of newly qualified drivers and broaden their driving experience. Modules will not all take the same amount of time to cover, but each course must consist of a minimum of six hours training, five and a half of which must be practical in-car driving sessions. This does not necessarily mean six sessions - the number of sessions required will depend on the ability and progress of the individual pupil.

  • Introduction & town driving.
  • All-weather driving.
  • Out of town driving & rural roads.
  • Night driving.
  • Dual carriageway.
  • Motorways.

Our instructors will be looking for a good standard of driving in all six areas. They will also want to see improved observation, care, courtesy and consideration for other road users and the ability to anticipate hazards and take the necessary action.

There is no test at the end. Your instructor will sign off your training form and send it to the DSA, who will then send you a Pass Plus certificate.

With Pass Plus, you can significantly reduce your car insurance premiums or get an extra no claims bonus with many insurance companies. The savings you make are likely to cover the cost of your Pass Plus lessons and more.

Currently our Pass Plus lessons are £25.00 / Hour

5. Refresher lessons
